Volume containing copies of two accounts of the family of Dunbar.
Scope and Contents
(i) `A short account of the noble and ancient Family of Dunbar. Writen, A[?] 1744.` The writer deals with the origin of the family, the family of Dunbar and March descended from the Earls of Northumberland, the families of Dundas and Home, the Dunbars of Cumnock and Mochrum, the Dunbars Earls of Moray, the Dunbars of Westfield and their branches, and the armorial bearings of the Dunbars, and adds genealogical trees of the family of Dunbar and March, of the Earls of Home and Marchmont, and of the Earls of Moray and the family of Westfield. A slightly later hand has added, in addition to notes throughout, sections on the Dunbars of Kilburack and of Grangehill. (Page 1.)
(ii) `An account of the Earls of Moray of the Name of Dunbar, and of the Children of Sir Alexr. Dunbar of Westfield. Transcribed from the Original Manuscript writen in the year 1554, and now in the hands of Mr. Dunbar of Grange`. After a brief introduction, the account is written in verse. The copyist was the first hand of section (i). (Page 27.)
