Scope and Contents

The title `Origo Episcopatus Dunelmensis` bears the date 1616, but the text is followed (folio 25 verso) by lists of bishops up to Richard Neile (1617-1628), deans from 1543 to 1620, and mayors from 1603 to 1627.

Bound in part of a 16th-century vellum indenture.

Custodial History

The manuscript was presented to the Advocates’ Library in 1708 by Robert Gray, Doctor of Medicine.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Presented, 1925, by the Faculty of Advocates to the nation on the foundation of the National Library of Scotland.

Related Materials

The manuscript is probably a copy of Durham Cathedral MS. C.IV.14, or of George Allan`s MS.8, number 3.

A less complete copy is at Wod.Qu.II, folio 109.
