Scope and Contents

The diary is called, on the last folio, 'Diarius quintus finitus Janr. 31 1660 Laus Deo', but other volumes of the series do not appear to be extant.

The diary is of a personal character, but includes references to local affairs (such as the founding of a new school), to his friend Archibald Johnston of Warriston, to the weather, and, occasionally, to public affairs.
