This copy was owned by Charles Kirkpatrick Sharpe, to whom it had been presented by Robert Surtees of Mainsforth. Sharpe’s signature dated 1812 is written inside the front cover. Apparently shortly after the publication of his edition of the work, Sharpe presented this copy to Archibald Constable, inscribing the front cover. An unidentified bookplate, possibly Sharpe`s or a previous owner`s, is pasted inside the front cover. The manuscript was bought by the Advocates’ Library at David Constable`s sale 13 December 1828, lot 2943.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Presented, 1925, by the Faculty of Advocates to the nation on the foundation of the National Library of Scotland.
