Scope and Contents

The contents of the manuscript are as follows:

(i) 18th century manuscript of ‘History of the House of Seytoun’ by Sir Richard Maitland of Lethington. Compared with the original text in Adv.MS.31.2.2, folios 183-199, this copy has been subjected to both modernisation and compression. For other copies see Adv.MSS.34.3.16 and 34.7.4. (Folio 1.)

(ii) `A Continuation of the Genealogie of the Noble Family of Arbuthnott by Mr. Alexr. Arbuthnott sometime Minister at the Kirk of Arbuthnott’, circa 1680, with an addition circa 1710. See ‘The Scots Peerage’, volume i, page 273. (Folio 12.)

(iii) `Genealogie of the Family of [Campbell of] Achinbreck from Duncan-an-adh` and of their Cadets, 1741. For a typed copy with notes by Herbert Campbell, circa 1932, see MS.810. (Folio 24.)

(iv) Account of the family of Hamilton, circa 1750. (Folio 41.)

(v) A contemporary copy of ‘Genealogical Collections’ by William Baird of Auchmedden, Adv.MS.32.6.12, pages 1-65, omitting the latest additions in that volume. (Folio 68.)

(vi) Manuscript, 18th century, of ‘Ane Account of the origine and succession of the family of Innes’ by Duncan Forbes of Culloden. This copy omits the introduction but includes the diploma by the Lord Lyon. For autograph copies see MSS.2970, folio 285, and 2973, folio 25. (Folio 86.)
