Rubricated copy of ‘Compendium sive Breviarium Primi Voluminis Annalium seu Historiarum’ by Johann Tritheim (Moguntiacum, 1515), containing a few insignificant corrections, but no additions to the text.

Identifier: Adv.MS.81.5.1

Scope and Contents

Bound in at the back of the volume are copies, written in an early 16th-century hand of German provenance, of the following:

(i) The Bulla Aurea of the Emperor Charles IV promulgated in 1356 (folio 1). The text appears to be almost exactly the same as that published in ‘H.G. Thulemarii de Bulla Aurea, Argentea, Plumbea et Cerea in genere nec non in specie de Aurea Bulla Caroli IV Imp. Tractatio’.

(ii) The Concordat of Vienna, concluded between the Emperor Frederick III and Pope Nicholas V in 1448 (folio 15). The text is supplemented by summaries of the terms, and is followed by an Addition in which complaint is made to Pope Julius II (to whose pontificate, 1503-1513, this copy of the Concordat and presumably that of the Bulla Aurea may be dated) that the terms of the Concordat are not being observed.

Both documents have been rubricated but neither has been illuminated. The initials introducing the chapters of the Bulla Aurea have also been tinted with silver, which has long since oxidized.
