Scope and Contents

The contents are as follows.

(i) Letters to William Craigie, 1886-1923, undated, chiefly from other scholars concerning philological and editorial problems. A few unrelated letters, 1825-1885, from Palmerston, Peel, and others, have been placed at the beginning. (Folio 1.) (ii) Correspondence, 1923-1957, undated, with C T Onions and the Clarendon Press, concerning the ‘Oxford English dictionary’ and its supplements. ‘The dictionary of American English’ and other lexicographical matters are also discussed. (Folio 115.) (iii) Photocopies of 'Tentsmoor', two poems by Craigie, dated 1891. They first appeared in ‘College echoes’, 1893, and then in ‘Echoes reechoed’, published by the Alumnus Association, St Andrews, 1934, pages 18-19. (Folio 198.) (iv) Typescripts of two poems in Icelandic by Snaebjorn Jonsson, 1963, with an explanatory letter. The poems are in memory of Craigie and Agnes Logan. (Folio 200.)
