Papers relating to the military service of Frederick Guthrie Tait.
Content Description
Includes certificates and other papers relating to the Royal Military College, Sandhurst, a small number of letters to Tait, some photographs at Sandhurst, and a copy of the order of service for the unveiling of a Black Watch memorial in Perth in 1905.
Tait was accepted into Sandhurst in September 1889, and on completion of his training the following year, was gazetted into the 2nd battalion, the Leinster regiment (109th foot). In 1894, Tait joined the 2nd battalion, the Black Watch. Tait was posted to South Africa shortly after the start of the South African War. He was killed in action at Koodoosberg, Northern Cape, in February 1900, and buried on the bank of the Riet River.
