Scope and Contents
Also included are copies of: a letter, 1793, to Mrs Carlyle (page 5), a letter (from Admiral Bowyer), 1794, to Admiral Roddam (page 29), and a letter, 1803, to John Erasmus Blackett (page 181). There are also copies of a letter of Cuthbert Collingwood to his wife, with enclosures from Nelson, Waldegrave, and others, and of a letter and some diary notes of William Christie, schoolmaster in the 'Excellent', all relating to the Battle of Cape St Vincent, 1797 (page 186).
These copies were made, some of them circa 1840, from the originals, now lost, then in the possession of Carlyle Bell, Writer to the Signet.
