The manuscript includes:
Letters, 1789-1840, of and to the Reverend John Campbell, philanthropist, some concerning missionary work in South Africa (folios 26-52);
Letters, 1799-1830, of and to Sir Thomas Lawrence, the painter, chiefly to the banker, Thomas Coutts (folios 122-155);
Letters, 1776-1797, of Andrew Lumisden, secretary to Prince Charles Edward Stuart, possibly written to his close friend, John McGowan, a writer in Edinburgh (folios 159-172);
Letters, 1805-1806, 1814, of and to James Moir, naval surgeon, and his wife, chiefly written while he was a prisoner-of-war in France, with other related material (folios 173-219).
