Scope and Contents

The papers, for the most part, deal with matters affecting the Presbytery of Kelso and include:

Papers relating to a charge of drunkenness brought against John Byres, schoolmaster of Roxburgh, 1819 (folio 1); Papers relating to charges of misconduct brought against William Laidlaw, schoolmaster of Roxburgh, 1838 (folio 26);

Papers relating to the admission of William Lee as Minister of Roxburgh, 1843 (folio 40), and his transfer to Glasgow University, 1875 (folio 52);

Letters from the North British Railway, the Caledonian Extension-Railway, and the Jedburgh Railway to the Presbytery of Kelso, informing them of their plan to build a branch line on lands belonging to the Church, 1845-1852 (folio 55);

Letters and papers relating to the admission of Dr David Paul as Minister of Roxburgh, 1875-1876 (folio 65), and his transfer to Grange, Edinburgh, 1896 (folio 77);

Letters and papers relating to the proposed suppression of Fairnington School, with a letter and petition from Henry Rutherfurd, requesting the return of his land after the school's removal, 1876-1894 (folio 81).
