These notes indicate that the lectures from which they were taken did not differ to any great extent in general arrangement and scope from those which were later printed in ‘The collected works of Dugald Stewart, Esq., F.R.SS.’, volumes viii and ix. There are, however, one or two discrepancies, as can be seen from a detailed comparison between the chapter headings in the printed volumes and the titles of the lectures tabulated on folios 2-3 of this manuscript. A discussion of the editorial problems arising from the loss of Stewart's later manuscripts of his lectures on Political Economy can be found on pages vii-xxiii of volume viii of ‘The Collected Works’.
