Robert Burns afterwards published the poem in the Edinburgh Edition of his 'Poems, chiefly in the Scottish dialect' (Kilmarnock, 1787), the first line being altered to “O Thou dread Pow’r who reign’st above!" See ‘The life and works of Robert Burns’, edited by R Chambers and William Wallace (Edinburgh, 1896), volume i, page 413.
