Late 13th-century manuscript produced France, possibly the Lorraine region, containing the prose romance of Tristan. Borland has attributed the manuscript to the early 14th century. Meyer and Vinaver both assigned it to the 13th century. Johnson suggests that the manuscript was possibly written from dictation by a scribe accustomed to the forms of Old French prevalent in Lorraine. The work is written in triple columns of 60 lines each, except where lais or chansons are introduced.

The manuscript is incomplete. Four leaves between folios 172 and 173 have been cut out and there are leaves missing at the end. Folio 152 is nearly all blank, and there are further gaps throughout. The manuscript has omissions, additions and divergences from other prose 'Tristan' manuscripts, the details of which can be found in Johnson, Löseth, and Vinaver. Some of the leaves are illegible in places due to damage by damp and other stains.

The title on folio 1r, 'La Grant Istoire de Mon Signor Tristan', has been inserted later. The writing is uniform, but appears to be the work of two or more hands according to Johnson. On folio 145r the writing changes and becomes larger.

The first part of the prose romance of Tristan by so-called 'Luces de Gaul' runs from folio 1r-152v.

The second part as enlarged by so-called 'Helie de Borron', with a short preface, runs from folio 153r-196v.

197 is a vellum flyleaf with various entries in French, which do not appear to be releated to the text.

The six 'lais' are present in the manuscript at the following places:

Folio 58r, 'J'ai fait chansonetes et lais,' the 'lay mortal' sung by Tristan in the forest of Morois.

Folio 73r, 'Li solois luist et clers et biaus,' sung by Tseut.

Folio 96r, 'Amors a vos, ains qu'a nelui,' sung by Kahedin’s harper before Yseut.

Folio 96v, 'Folie n'est pais vaselaige,' given by Yseut to the harper for Kahedin.

Folio 97v, 'En morant de si doulce more,' sent by Kahedin to Yseut.

Folio 194v, 'D'Amors viennent li doulz penseir,' composed and sung by Tristan's rival, Palamides.

The manuscript is decorated with capitals coloured alternately red and blue. Spaces have been left throughout for more elaborately illuminated initials. Guide letters are visible where initials have not been completed.

Each folio has been lined and ruled recto and verso.

Pricking is occasionally visible in the gutter margin.

Contemporary and modern repairs to the vellum are present throughout.

There are a few marginal inscriptions and plain penwork illustrations of figures and faces, especially on folios 152v, 195v, and 196r.

Horizontal catchwords are present on the following folios: 8v, 16v, 24v, 32v, 40v, 48v, 56v, 64v, 72v, 80v, 88v, 96v, 104v, 112v, 120v, 128v, 136v, 144v.

The foliation is modern. Up until folio 4r it is present in both the upper right corner and the lower margin. After folio 4r is it only present in the lower margin. There have been several amendments to this foliation, probably during the rebinding process.
