The signature of H E Passavant, dated 1856, is written inside the front cover.
The music book contains a small number of songs, hymns and other pieces, some of which are dated 1857 (folios 5, 7), written apparently in a beginner's hand.
A press cutting containing an account of an old song is tipped in at the back (folio ii).
