The description is based on the “Catalogue of the manuscripts in the Advocates’ Library. IV. Genealogy and Heraldry" (F.R.187), published as ‘Catalogue of Manuscripts relating to genealogy and heraldry, preserved in the Library of the Faculty of Advocates at Edinburgh’ (London, 1852).

The manuscript was purchased by the Advocates Library in 1898 at the Phillipps sale.
The manuscript was formerly in the library of Sir Thomas Phillipps.
The manuscript formerly belonged to Alexander Deuchar, and has his bookplate.
