5 Leaves (Typed translation into English of a letter, 27 August 1918, of General Gassoins, commanding the 17th (French) Division, to Major-General Hamilton Lyster Reed, commanding the 15th (Scottish) Division. Gassoins writes regarding the contribution made by the 15th (Scottish) Division in gaining the village of Buzancy, as evident when the division was relieved by Gassoins’ 17th (French) Division. Gassoins instructed one of his officers to erect a monument as a tribute from the 17th (French) to 15th (Scottish) Division. The letter was owned by Stephen Needham, who served as Major-General Reed’s batman during the First World War. Copies of Needham’s service records are included with the letter. )
