Scope and Contents

Including epitaphs, poems, charters and other papers. With journal, 1876, of Thomas R Steuart, and letters of Edward VII, and Charles Steuart.

The contents are as follows:

1. Epitaph on Benjamin Franklin, printer.

2. Hymn, 'The hour of my departure …'.

3. 'On the death of Alexander Wood Esq', signed MDE.

4. Two tombstone inscriptions.

5. A Father's Advice to his Son on Joining the Bar by Gillies Tytler 1851.

6. Copy 1816 of charter of John Stuart, Earl of Angus to Gilbert Lumsden 1329.

7. Copy ?circa 1796 of charter of Alexander II of Scotland 1223.

8. Copy in Thomas Ruddiman's hand of questions to and answers of Dr George Middleton, Principal of King's College, Aberdeen, given in the provincial synod of Aberdeen 1701 concerning an allegedly heretical book.

9. Copy in Thomas Ruddiman's hand of a speech apparently given at a meeting of a charitable society circa 1742.

10. Press-cutting of letter concerning tomb of Thomas Ruddiman to the editor of 'The Caledonian Mercury' 1829 signed JWM (?Miss J Whyte Melville).

11. Journal of Colonel Thomas R Steuart while yachting with George H R C W V Tempest, 5th Marquess of Londonderry 1876.

12. Letter, undated, of the Prince of Wales (later Edward VII) to Londonderry.

13-14. 2 letters of William Ruddiman to Charles Steuart and copy of reply of Steuart 1801.

15. Extract of letter from the Isle of France concerning the loss of the 'Winterton' off Madagascar 1792.

16. Signature of Sir Walter Scott.

17. Bundle of signatures obtained from franks.
