Scope and Contents

This collection of oral history interviews with various students and members of academic and support staff at the University of Strathclyde formed part of the research material used by Callum G Brown, Arthur McIvor, and Neil C Rafeek to write a book entitled ‘The University Experience 1945-1975: An Oral History of the University of Strathclyde’. The interviewees discuss both their backgrounds and their experiences of teaching and working at the University of Strathclyde between 1945 and 1975, the vital period of post-war education.

Physical Characteristics and Technical Requirements

The original recordings were captured on magnetic tape audio cassettes. The 49 masters, with 10 copies, were digitised under the UOSH (Unlocking Our Sound Heritage) project.

Custodial History

The original audio cassettes of the recordings made by Neil Rafeek and Hilary Young were transferred to the University of Strathclyde Archives and Special Collections where they are part of the permanent collections.

The cassettes were temporarily deposited with the National Library of Scotland to enable digitisation under the Unlocking Our Sound Heritage (UOSH) project.
