  • Scope and Contents

The Mure of Caldwell papers are chiefly of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Some of the earlier papers belonged to the Mures of Glanderston, the two families having been united in 1710 by the succession of William, 4th Laird of Glanderston, to the Caldwell estates.

  • Arrangement

The papers were arranged, mostly by members of the Mure family, under the headings of correspondence, financial papers, and miscellaneous writings. Within each group, documents were placed chronologically. This arrangement has been retained.

For deeds relating to the Mures and their various properties, see Ch.2635-3799.

  • Custodial History

The papers were bought by the National Library of Scotland with the aid of the Reid Fund.
