'Book containing minutes of what passed in the Convention of Estates, 1648.'

 File
Identifier: MS.8482

Scope and Contents

The text describes the proceedings of Parliament, 9 March to 18 April, 1648, including meetings of the committees of eighteen and twenty four, and, occasionally, of the separate estates. Two of the meetings were also attended by ministers delegated by the Commission of the General Assembly. The debates mainly concern the conflict between the Parliament and the Church over the terms of the Engagement.

The record is, in some respects, fuller than that in the ‘Acts of the Parliament of Scotland’, volume vi, part II, pages 9-29.

The volume also contains a copy of 'The Humble Desires of the Commission of the General Assembly' ('The Right Desires'). See ‘Records of the Commissions of the General Assemblies of the Church of Scotland’, pages 403-405.
