Scope and Contents

A collection of Piobaireachd and other music, consisting of bound books, groups of unbound sheets, and disparate sheets. Includes "Captain Chisholm's manuscript", possibly one of the oldest manuscripts of Ceòl Beag.

The descriptions are taken from an assessment made by Dr Roderick Cannon.

Arrangement

The current arrangement is that of Dr Roderick Cannon who assessed the papers for the seller prior to them being offered to the Library. The order of the papers when received by Dr Cannon, in 6 bags, was as follows.

Custodial History

These papers came from the library of John Fairley, with some of the earlier manuscripts in the collection having previously been in the hands of several generations of the MacRae family.
