The majority of the correspondence is dated 1939-1943, although there are earlier letters. The correspondence mainly refers to domestic and family matters, but it also provides an insight into Private Mackenzie’s perceptions of daily life in Northern Africa. There are some gaps in the correspondence. Also included are photocopies of souvenir papers sent by David to Elizabeth and copies of the newssheets ‘The Torch’ and ‘Union Jack’.
