Illustrated typescript journal of `A Camping Holiday in Scotland` by Allan George Nicholson.
Scope and Contents
Allan George Nicholson, his wife Peggie, and their son Michael, travelled by road from Cresham in Buckinghamshire to London where they took the Car Sleeper train to Perth. From there they toured Scotland for over weeks covering covering more than a thousand miles in a circular route to Scourie in the north, returning via the Great Glen and Oban. Places visited include Balmoral Castle, Portsoy, Culloden, Inverness, Lairg, Scourie, Lochinver, Oban, Fingal`s Cave, Iona and Glencoe.
The journal is illustrated with numerous photographs, postcards, tickets and campsite and hotel receipts. A map showing the holidaymakers` route is pasted in at f.2v.
Each day`s entry includes anecdotes as well as observations about the route and local geology.

Custodial History
Allan George Nicholson's effects were sold after his death and this journal along with other albums and papers was acquired by Howard Sledmere who donated them to Chesham Museum. The journal was presented to the National Library of Scotland as not fitting Chesham Museum's collecting policy.
