The general arrangement is that of the first printed edition of 1681, but with various omissions (in particular, the headings of Titles 12-22) and differences in the text.
Custodial History
The manuscript was bought by the National Library of Scotland with the aid of the Reid Fund.
On folio iv occur the inscriptions 'My lord Staires first book of practicques 1666' and 'Ex libris Alexandri Gray'. Gray's signature also occurs on folio 1.
