Wartime log of Flight Sergeant Charles D Paterson.
Scope and Contents
Wartime logbook, 1938-1942, of Flight Sergeant Charles D. Paterson, recording his experiences during the Second World War.
The contents list at the beginning of the volume suggests that Paterson was a POW in first Italy then in Germany, although the description of his experiences is incomplete and ends before his capture. In one of the chapters, Paterson notes that he has been a prisoner of war for almost 3 years.
In addition to Paterson`s description of his flight training and service in the Arctic and Meditterranean, the volume contains 29 photographs, including a photograph of the funeral of Sgt. Pilot H. Purslow at Stalag XVIIA, and of scenes of roll call in the prison camp. There are also a small number of ephemeral items relating to the camp, including a menu for Christmas dinner, 1942, and a ticket for a camp pantomine production.
