Research papers of Gael Turnbull for biography of John Macleod Campbell.
Scope and Contents
Research papers, c. 1989-1998, of Gael Turnbull for his biography of John McLeod Campbell.
Gael Turnbull, poet and medical practitioner, took up this project after his retirement from medicine. John McLeod Campbell, Church of Scotland minister and theologian, was removed from the ministry after his preaching was determined to be inconsistent with the doctrinal position of the Westminster confession, which ministers of the Church of Scotland were expected to hold. Friends with many eminent churchmen of the time, Campbell became one of the leading theologians of the Victorian era. The papers include research notes for Campbell`s life, work and family, copies of his letters, and a copy of Turnbull`s unpublished biography.
