Early socialist organisations mentioned include a Republican Society, affiliated to the Democratic [later Social Democratic] Federation; Edinburgh University Socialist Society; the Socialist League; the Scottish Land and Labour league; the Scottish Labour Party, and Labour Party; the Independent Labour Party; and the Fabian Society. The narrative is based on a talk given originally at the 17th Annual Conference of the Independent Labour Party, 1909.
