Scope and Contents
Robert Cadell (1788-1849) was the partner of Archibald Constable, and, after the dissolution of that partnership in 1825, the sole publisher of Walter Scott's novels. His papers reflect his personal and business relations with Scott and other authors, as well as his family affairs.

The collection reflects Sir Lewis Robertson`s personal and business activities during the later years of his life. The correspondence files, 2003-2008, and letter books, 2004-2008, show his active involvement in many charitable and cultural bodies until his death in November 2008. Of particular interest are several volumes of speeches and interviews, 1989-2003, and three diaries, 1978-1980, dated during his time as Director of the Scottish Development Agency.
