Scope and Contents
The Eaglescarnie estate was held by a younger branch of the Haliburtons until the middle of the 18th century, when it was acquired by Patrick Lindsay, Deputy Secretary at War, by his marriage with Margaret, only daughter of Thomas Haliburton. There are some 17th-century papers of the Haliburtons, but the majority relate to Patrick Lindsay and to his father, Patrick, Lord Provost of Edinburgh and Member of Parliament for the City (see ‘The Scots Peerage’, pages 409-410).
