Scope and Contents Julius Jacob the Elder (1811-1882) was a German Jewish artist born in Berlin who lived in London between 1844 and 1855. He is known both for his landscapes and society portraits.The sketchbook contains more than 150 pencil sketches of a tour in Scotland from August 1846 to February 1847.
