The diary contains a detailed descriptive account of Lilian's first meeting with George Adam Smith at Riffelalp, Switzerland, with a note from George Adam Smith enclosing pressed flowers, a letter from George Adam Smith to Lilian on their wedding day, 1889, and related notes and letters of Lilian on the diary to members of her family, 1913-1931. Pencil notes with commentary on Lilian's diary have been added to the volume at a later date by George Adam Smith.
