Scope and Contents A E Borthwick (1871-1955), a son of William H Borthwick of Crookston, studied art in Edinburgh and Paris from 1890 to 1896, after which he enlisted in the ranks and helped to raise the Scottish Sharpshooters, 70th company of the XVIII Battalion of the Imperial Yeomanry. He served in the Boer and First World Wars, retiring from the army in 1919 as honorary Staff Captain. As a member of the Royal Academy he specialised in portraits and subjects of a religious genre, his best-known work being...

The title of the main text is on folio 2. It is followed by a 'Short Delineation' (folio 17) and a map (folio 22) of the district. It is presumably a contemporary translation of part of the route of the return journey of Catherine II from her visit to the south and the then recently acquired territories in the Crimea.

The papers were created for an exhibition by Extinction Rebellion (XR) at Summerhall during the 2019 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and represent the group's activities and organised events during 2019 in the form of an ironic 'office'-style map, calendar, and Kanban board.

Scope and Contents All plans have a note by Claud Russell, trustee for Archibald McLean of Pennycross, that they are the plans referred to in a disposition, 19 February 1819, by him to William McGillivray, Montreal.The plans are as follows: (i) 'Plan of the Lands of Torrens in the Island of Mull belonging to Archibald Maclean Esquire of Pennycross Surveyed 1816 by Alexander Langlands.' Scope and Contents

A group of about 2500 plans, chiefly made by Messrs Stevenson. Their business was concerned chiefly with sea-works, lighthouses, harbours, canals and river courses, and the plans reflect this interest, although there are some items relating to railways and bridges.

Dates: 19th century-mid 20th century.

Report by Robert Stevenson, 1829, to the heritors on the upper Forth, on the navigation of the river from Stirling to Blackdub on the Teith, together with an estimate of costs, a copy of his preliminary report of 1826, and a plan.

The conclusion of the report is that while improvements in the river are possible, it would be preferable to build a road or railway between the two points.

The plan, based on a survey by J Sherar, is at 24 inches to the mile, and includes also a section of the river and of a proposed cut.
