'Essay on the associating faculty' by Arthur Burnett, later Sheriff-Substitute of Peebles, apparently while a student at Edinburgh University., 1818.
James Burnett, Lord Monboddo, was appointed a Senator of the College of Justice in 1767. A large part of the papers consist of his essays, drafts and notes, many of which were used in his books.
'Essay on the Improvement of the Imagination' by the Very Reverend John Lee, probably written while he was a student, but containing corrections and additions which appear to be of later date., ?Late 18th century-mid 19th century.

The identity of the author is not recorded, and the circumstances of the writing are unknown, but the hand, if not the authorship, may be that of Sir John Sinclair, 1st Baronet of Ulbster, who was in London in 1782 and was interested in agricultural and estate improvement from an early age.
