There is a large amount of correspondence of and to Benjamin and Sara Austen. There are many of their letters to their nephew, Sir Austen Henry Layard, as well as letters to and from as a wide variety of other correspondents.

Scope and Contents The papers in this subseries relate to Benjamin and Sara Austen. Benjamin Austen was a solicitor and he married Sara (née Rickett) in 1816. Their nephew was the archaeologist Austen Henry Layard, who lived with them for a time, before he left to travel.
