Scope and Contents From the Fonds:

This collection dates mainly from after 1988, when John McGrath and Elizabeth MacLennan resigned from the company which they had established, with David MacLennan, in 1973. Following the funding crisis in 2006, the company had to leave its base in the STUC building in Glasgow, and it was at this point that much of the material in this accession was presented to the National Library of Scotland.

The papers comprise a copy of a letter, ?1640, of the Earl of Argyll to 'Dougall' (folio 6); facsimiles of a minute, 11 August 1715, of a meeting of freeholders and other heritors of Argyll convened at Inveraray to decide on measures to be taken against the Jacobite invasion, with undertaking to support the Government signed by those present (folio 7), and of a letter, 27 August 1715, of the Duke of Argyll thanking them (folio 9).

Scope and Contents From the Record Group: In the early 19th century there was much public complaint about the cost and quality of Bibles produced on both sides of the Border where the respective King's printers enjoyed monopoly rights to the printing of acts of Parliament, proclamations, the Authorised Version of the Bible, the metrical psalms, catechism, etc (in England the universities of Oxford and Cambridge also had the Bible printing privilige).
