‘Authentick Extract of the Procedings in the Trial of Capt. John Porteous Laid Before the House by the Duke of Newcastle, Marth the 3d, 1736' (London, 1737), with annotations, mostly by Lord Milton, in the margins and on blank sheets bound in at beginning and end., 1737.
The majority of the papers grouped here are Lord Milton's political papers, reflecting his manifold interests and involvements. There are however some of earlier and later date, generated or collected by other members of the Fletcher family.

Robert Sutherland (1909-1981) who wrote under the name 'Robert Garioch', was educated in Edinburgh and, after the war of 1939-1945 when he was a prisoner in Italy and Germany, became a schoolteacher in Kent. He returned to Edinburgh in 1959, where he taught and worked for the School of Scottish Studies in the University.

Almost all of the material is typewritten, with numerous manuscript additions and corrections.
