Content Description

Hunter was interned in a number of different camps for officers, including Oflag VII C, Oflag IX A/Z and Oflag VIB. Whilst the stories were written during his internment, they do not describe his experiences during that time.

Prior to the Second World War, Hunter had lived in Ferozepur and Allahabad, India before moving to Oban around 1936, which is reflected in his stories.

Dates: 1941-1945.

Folios 1-15 are from an early version of ‘Stained radiance’; folios 16-39 correspond to pages 214-230 of the published novel.

The versos of folios 1-15 contain the typescript, marked up for printing, of part of the story 'Dawn in Alarlu', published in James Leslie Mitchell's ‘Persian dawns, Egyptian nights’. A page is missing between folios 10 verso and ll verso, and the typescript of pages 150-157 of the printed version is missing.
