Scope and Contents From the Sub-Series:

Ruthven Todd was originally commissioned to write the official biography of Dylan Thomas, but failed to do so. These manuscripts are his reminiscences of the poet, which were not published except for chapter 12 which appeared in the ‘Mediterranean Review’, volume i, number 3 (1971), pages 15-23.

Scope and Contents From the Fonds:

Robert Sutherland (1909-1981) who wrote under the name 'Robert Garioch', was educated in Edinburgh and, after the war of 1939-1945 when he was a prisoner in Italy and Germany, became a schoolteacher in Kent. He returned to Edinburgh in 1959, where he taught and worked for the School of Scottish Studies in the University.

Scope and Contents From the Sub-Series:

The play was first performed in 1937, and a revised version published in 1971. MSS.26335-26336 are annotated acting copies: MS.26335 appears to have been used in several productions (for another similar typescript, see MS.26465). MS.26336 includes the later revisions in manuscript, and MS.26337 is a carbon typescript of the revised version.

Carbon typescripts of 'Blood upon the Rose: a play in three acts' by George Moncrieff-Scott., [?1956.]

Scope and Contents From the Sub-Series:

George Scott-Moncrieff wrote a number of plays, of which only ‘Fotheringhay’ was published (Edinburgh, 1953), although others were performed on the stage or broadcast. Most of the surviving typescripts are undated.

Scope and Contents From the Collection: Deaf Action is a deaf-led charity which has been operating in Edinburgh since 1835. The Deaf and Dumb Congregation in Edinburgh began meeting together in 1830 following the establishment in the city of schools for deaf children. Scope and Contents From the Series: Vero L Bosazza, a South Africa geologist who worked in various African countries, became interested in the nineteenth century travellers there, especially David Livingstone. In retirement he wrote extensively on them, his personal knowledge of the localities giving his work a dimension frequently lacking in other scholarship. His writings are almost entirely unpublished, except in the sense that he distributed copies of them to various libraries with interests in African history....

Scope and Contents

The contents are as follows. (i) Part of a manuscript collection of poems intended for publication, circa l940 (folio 1); (ii) Incomplete manuscript and typescripts of the second and third appendices to a larger work. The 'Second Appendix' (folio 21) consists of a poem on Glasgow, parts of which were published in ‘Collected poems’ and ‘Lucky poet’. The "Third Appendix' (folio 52) is 'Once in a Cornish garden' from ‘A lap of honour’ (London, 1967).
