Ch.5946-5975: a group of thirty deeds and notarial extracts formerly part of a larger collection of documents, numbered between 1 and at least 33 (but originally not chronologically arranged), relating to properties in the High Street, Edinburgh;

Ch.5976-5990: a group of mostly unrelated documents of a miscellaneous nature arranged in a separate chronological sequence.

Assignation, 8 April 1609, by David Pitcairne, son natural to Mr John Pitcairn of that Ilk, to Robert Pitcairn of Dounfield, in reference to contract, 20 August 1584, between said David Pitcairne and George Halket of Pitfirran, of an annual-rent of fifty merks and thirty merks from lands and mains of Pitfirrane., 8 April 1609.

The charter and legal material contained here is of importance as giving the continuous history of a landed family in Fife from the 13th to the 18th century. The Halkett family appear to have risen partly on the decline of the Lochores of Lochore. By 1431, the former are having transumpts made of charters of the early 13th century granted to the latter (Ch.6018-6019).

Dates: 8 April 1609.

Assignation, 18 November 1524, by Rolland Blakater, sub-dean of Glasgow, to John Halkheid of Petfurane and Elizabeth Aitoun, his spouse, and Patrick Halkheid, their son, to a tack and assedation, 3 December 1520, by Andrew, archbishop of St Andrews and abbot of Dunfermline, of the lands of Knokews, and coals, coalheughs etc., 18 November 1524.

The earlier documents relate mainly to Guthrie of Petmowis and the lands of Stotfaulds and others in Monikie, the later to Guthrie of Guthrie and the lands of Hilton and Langlands of Guthrie, which were acquired by Lindsay of Balgays in 1603. There are also documents concerning the Collegiate Church of Guthrie (of which Guthrie of Guthrie was patron) and Innerpeffer (sold to Robert Fletcher in 1596).

Dates: 10 March 1589/1590.

Assignation by Anna Stewart, wife of Robert Ged younger, of Balderye, to her husband of all goods, debts and money from her deceased father John Stewart of Innernytie., 18 February 1695.
