The letters for 1885-1886 concern the preparation and publication of “A selection from the correspondence of Abraham Hayward, Q.C. From 1834-1884” (1886), edited by Henry Carlisle. The others mostly concern Carlisle`s proposal to publish a memoir of the 5th Duke of Newcastle, and discussions over the content and argument of the manuscript. Scope and Contents From the Series: The incoming correspondence consists of letters of individuals and companies sent to John Murray, publishers, mostly relating to the business, but also including private letters. The correspondence largely covers the period from the 1760s to the 1920s. Where enclosures exist, they have been kept with their original letters.
