Biography

The Monks of St Giles was formed in Edinburgh in 1852 as society which combined sociability with composition in verse and prose. James Sidey was probably the driving force. He had previously formed the Young Edinburgh Club in 1845, and the new club was organised along the same lines.

Containing selections of verse and some prose 'contributed' by the Monks at their regular meetings was published as 'The reminscences of the Monks of St Giles', volumes I-IV.
