Biography

Ian Zachary Malcolm was born in Quebec in 1868, and educated at Eton and New College, Oxford. He entered the Diplomatic Service in 1891, and was Attaché at Berlin, 1891-3 and at Paris in 1893. He was Assistant Private Secretary to Lord Salisbury, 1895-8, Parliamentary Private Secretary to George Wyndham (Chief Secretary for Ireland), 1900-3, and Parliamentary Private Secretary to Balfour (Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs), 1916-19. Malcom was elected as MP for Croyden in 1910 and for Croydon South in 1918, which he held until he resigned in 1919. He held the position of British Director on the Suez Canal Board, 1919-39.

Malcolm wrote Indian Pictures and problems (1907), The Calendar of the Empire, War Pictures (1915) and other works. He died in 1944.
