Scope and Contents
The papers are arranged, apparently by James Stuart, in two series:
(i) Copy of Sir Eyre Coote's commission as Commander-in-Chief, India, 1778, his commission to hold courts-martial in India, 1781, and miscellaneous correspondence, 1782-1783; included is a printed copy of the Preliminary Articles of Peace signed at Versailles, 1783, between Britain and France, Britain and Spain, and, at Paris, 1782, between Britain and the United States of America (folio 1).
(ii) Correspondence, 1782, between Sir Eyre Coote and James Stuart on administrative affairs, including drafts and copies, with related correspondence and papers (folio 49).
