Sketchbooks of Lucinda Mackay, [?1970]-2012
Scope and Contents
A series of 30 sketchbooks comprising primarily of ink, pencil, and crayon drawings with a small number containing watercolour paintings. The majority of individual images are undated and untitled. Where contextual detail exists this has been recorded in item descriptions. Sketchbooks contain representations of everyday life in Edinburgh and London, with 7 sketchbooks representing the artist's international trips to Lausanne, Switzerland; and Taipei, Taiwan in 1982; Istanbul, Turkey in [?1995]; the Loire Valley, France in 1998; Venice, Italy in 2007; and Bruges, Belgium in 2009. Representations consist primarily of character studies and cityscapes. Three sketchbooks document specific events, notably the Culross Festival, Dunfermline in 1997; Hogmanay 2003/2004; and the opening of a Van Gogh exhibition at the Dean Gallery, Edinburgh in 2006.
