Scope and Contents

This portfolio contains 100 loose drawings. Mediums used include ink, pencil, and crayon, whilst artistic techniques in evidence also include lithography and etching.

Titles and contextual details for the drawings have been provided by the artist as follows:

1. Professor Geoffrey Boulton, Geologist. Vice Principal of University of Edinburgh prior to painted portrait which he bought circa 2006.

IAA. Bethnal Green Road. Etching.

2. Professor Sir Ian Wilmut with Dolly the Sheep. Done in the National Museum of Scotland, March 2020 prior to painted portrait going to the Roslin Institute.

3. The Scottish poet Alan Bold, drawn in Clareville Street, London when he visited with his wife,Alice.

4. Alan Bold, early 1970s.

5. Mrs Amelia Melvin circa 2013 prior to a painted portrait.

6. Head of Aphrodite.

7. Ed the Plumber. Artist met him in a pub in Causewayside when she lived in Grange Loan.

8. Victoria, a student who came to pose for artist, circa 1981.

9. Professor Neil Tennant, circa 1979, when he was teaching Logic at the University of Edinburgh. He went on to teach at Columbus, Ohio, USA.

10. Photocopy of drawing of Sheriff David Bogie, artist’s late husband. His second wife, Jean Bogie, has the original.

16. Marcia Mann. Ink and watercolour. Circa 1981. She came to pose for artist.

17. Janey Grier. A drama student who came to pose for the artist circa 1981.

18. Michelle Holder. Another student who came to pose for the artist circa 1981.

19. Branislav Sudjic. Fellow student at the University of Edinburgh who later became a solicitor.

20. Dr Philip Stevens. Fellow student at the University of Edinburgh who later worked for the UK Home Office. Done in Clareville Street, London.

21. Ivor Guild. Distinguished solicitor who lived for many years in the New Club in Edinburgh.

22. Ronald Guild. Cousin of solicitor Ivor Guild who taught Tony Blair at Fettes School.

23. Self-portrait, circa 2001.

24. Artist’s cousin, James Bailey, in his flat in Upper Sloane Street, London. James was an artist who, among other things, designed stage sets for Covent Garden.

25. The Rev. Father Tom Allen. About 1980. Tom was an Edinburgh neighbour of the artist until he joined the priesthood. The artist visited him at Westminster Cathedral in London.
