File includes a group of 33 letters of Thomas Carlyle to family members, mostly his siblings, and especially his sister Jean. 2 letters of Jane Welsh Carlyle, one to her mother-in-law Margaret and one to John Stirling. Also included are 9 letters of Lady Louisa Ashburton mostly to Thomas Carlyle and 11 letters of William Bingham Baring, 2nd Baron Ashburton to Thomas Carlyle. There are also 12 letters to the Carlyles from G. O. Trevelyan, Robert Browning and Leigh Hunt, together with related notes and scraps.
