Copies of charters and other formal documents mostly of and relating to churches and religious houses in and near Edinburgh. Most are written by Lieutenant-General G H Hutton, on leaves watermarked 1821, from originals then in possession of Thomas Thomson, or at the General Register House, Edinburgh., 12th century-1569.
Scope and Contents
The contents are as follows:
(i) copies, some dated 1818 and 1819, of original charters then at Panmure relating to Holyroodhouse, 12th century-1429 (folios 1-98, 116-117);
(ii) copies, 1816, of documents mostly relating to the church at Kinnell, 1509, 1512 (folio 99);
(iii) copies of charters relating to St Giles`s, Edinburgh, 1395-1551 (folio 118);
(iv) copy relating to the collegiate church of St Mary of the Fields, 1523 (folio 162);
(v) copies relating to St Anthony`s Preceptory, Leith, 1446-1513 (folio 166);
(vi) copies, on leaves watermarked 1819, of charters relating to St Mary`s hospital, Edinburgh, 1514, 1523 (folio 180);
(vii) copy relating to St Cuthbert`s, 1534 (folio 186);
(viii) copies concerning various lands and properties in Edinburgh, 1370-1569 (folio 192);
(ix) copies relating to the Dominican convent, Edinburgh, 1513-1539 (folio 243).
