Scope and Contents
Letters, 1943-2006, undated, largely to Tom Weir, but with some to Tom and Rhona Weir, and letters of condolence to Rhona Weir following the death of Tom in 2006. There are also some copies of letters of Tom Weir to various correspondents.
Of particular interest is the correspondence relating to preparations for and organisation of the Scottish Himalayan Expedition of 1950 and the Everest Expedition of 1953.
Correspondents include William Murray, Seton Gordon, John Lorne Campbell, Adam Watson, Syd Scroggie, Malcolm Slessor and Donald McIntyre, but others are from publishers and also fans, particularly of ‘Weir’s Way’ and ‘My Month’, Tom Weir’s column in The Scots Magazine.
Correspondence found within subject-based files has been left in place.
