Scope and Contents

A number of loose sheets containing Gaelic songs, formerly in NLS MS.14878 (formerly Acc.3184/B), described in John Mackechnie, 'Catalogue of Gaelic manuscripts, vol. 1, pages 338-340. Comprising:

Part of "Oran Cattach", part of stanza 6 to stanza 13. The complete song was sent to Irvine, together with a cover letter in Gaelic, by Alasdair MacNab. The letter and the beginning of the song ('Tha cùram do ghaoil do ghaòir 's do ghàir orm / A ribhinn alluin ebhin òg') is found in MS.14878, pages 155-156. Mackechnie no. 20 (part).

Insert belonging to a version of Iain Lom's song to William and Mary, MS.14878, pages 179-192, giving alternative readings of stanzas 4 and 5. Mackechnie no. 27 (part).

[Cameron, Alasdair, Lochaber]. Song headed "Oran do fhear thir na Drise le mhnaoi". Begins, ''Se mheadaich mairsneil gu geur / S campear caisdail mo chluibh'. Printed in Patrick Turners 'Comhchruinneacha do dh'orain taghta, ghaidhealach' (Edinburgh 1813), pages 168-170. 13 stanzas of 3 lines. In Irvine's hand. 2 folios. Paper dated 1799. Mackechnie no. 34.
